    Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) site, ("we" or "us") is committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. We've structured our web site so that, in general, you can visit SDI site on the Web without identifying yourself or revealing any personal information.

    Our privacy and public records obligations are governed solely by applicable Virginia statutes, including, but not limited to, the Virginia Privacy Protection Act of 1976, the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and by any applicable U.S. federal laws.

    This notice applies to all information collected by or submitted to official SDI web sites (signified by the address "sdi.odu.edu"). The following information explains the Internet privacy policy and practices that the SDI site has adopted for its official web site. In legal terms, it shall not be construed as a contractual promise, and the SDI site reserves the right to amend it at any time without notice. The following information is therefore general, and we encourage you to read to ensure that you understand precisely the applicable privacy policies and practices.

    The "SDI" name is built on the trust of its members, and we hope that our commitment to online privacy will inspire the same trust in you while you are visiting SDI site. We have adopted a set of information management guidelines that serve as the basis for our member relationships. These guidelines have been developed with the recognition that Internet technologies are rapidly evolving. Accordingly, guidelines are subject to change. Any such changes will be posted on this page.     The Information We Collect
    Once you choose to provide us personally identifiable information (any information by which you can be identified), you can be assured that it will only be used to support your membership relationship with SDI. We do *not* and will *not* sell or give any data to any other organization, agency or company, period.

    Any information that you give us is held with the utmost care and will not be used other than as described in this privacy policy. We collect personal information from you on SDI site only when it is specifically and knowingly provided by you.

    This statement regarding the privacy of the personally identifiable information you provide online covers the five foundation principles of fair information: Awareness, Choice, Accuracy & Access, Security, and Oversight.

    Awareness
    SDI site provides this Online Privacy Statement to make you aware of our privacy policy, practices and of the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used. To make this notice easy to find, we make it available on our homepage and from the bottom of every SDI site's web pages.

    Member Registration
    Registration on SDI is strictly voluntary. To register on SDI, you must provide minimum information that we can reach you --your name, [company], address, and e-mail address. This information is required in the registration process at SDI site, but we recognize that this is your personal information and we do not give it out to third parties.

    At any time you may later review or update the personal information we have collected online from you by logging on with your user name and password and then going to the "update user profile".

    IP Addresses
    SDI site logs IP addresses, or the location of your computer on the Internet, for systems administration and troubleshooting purposes. We do not use IP address logs to track your session or your behavior on our site. Your IP address is not linked to any personally identifiable information.

    How SDI Site Uses Cookies
    SDI site neither uses cookies nor advocates cookies, period.

    Our Commitment To Data Security
    SDI site is committed to ensuring the security of your information. To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online, consistent with the policies of the SDI site and with the laws and regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

    SDI site has security measures in place to help protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. Once your information is received, it is stored on a secure server and access to your data is restricted to you and authorized administration group personnel. Internally, all member information is protected with multiple security checks. Each member of the SDI site administration group is granted access to the member data to the functionality necessary for each person's job.

    Our administration group orientation program includes a discussion of data integrity and network security. Administration group members are informed of our security policies and their access to applications and data on our network.

    The Internet is a constantly evolving environment and we continuously add new content and functionality to SDI site. As such, we conduct reviews of our privacy and security policies and procedures regularly when changes are made to our site, when content is added and when new applications are implemented.

    If you still do not feel comfortable about leaving your personal information on our secured Web site, please contact our administration group and we'll be happy to assist you with your specific need.

    We may provide links to third party web sites as a service to our users. Please be aware that we cannot control and are not responsible for the information collection practices of such web sites, which may differ from those of SDI site. We will never provide personal information from a user to a third party without your explicit consent. We encourage you to review and understand the privacy policies on these Web sites before providing any information to them.

    Accuracy & Access
    SDI site strives to keep your personally identifiable information accurate. We will provide you with access to your information, including making every effort to provide you with online access to your registration data so that you may view, update or correct your information at the SDI site where it was submitted. To protect your privacy and security, we will also take reasonable steps to verify your identity before granting you access or enabling you to make corrections.     How You Can Access or Correct Your Information

    Consent and Opting-Out
    Upon your request, SDI site will:

    1. Remove you and your personal information, from our database, thereby canceling your membership registration, and
    2. Correct personal information that you state is erroneous.

    Notification of Changes
    If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post these changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances we disclose it. Regardless of later updates, we will never use the information you submit under this current policy in a new way without first providing you an opportunity to opt out or otherwise prevent that use.
